Expat population in the countries of the Middle East often outnumbers the local population. Among the expat population, especially in UAE, Indians far outnumber citizens from other countries as things stand today. The expatriates undergo stresses that are longstanding and often lead to psychiatric morbidity. The children who grew up far away from home have academic, familial as well as cultural stressors. They lack in social support systems.

The psychiatric facilities available in the Middle East are inadequate for the level of psychiatric morbidity in the expat population.
